VR Immersion
After constructing the CUBE itself, the team modified an existing 3D virtual world, called Swamp Romp, that had been developed in Alice to run in the CUBE. In the world, guests jump from lily pad to lily pad in search of flies as a frog.
To make this world work on the CUBE display, we tried two separate setups. In the first, we replaced the single virtual camera with four cameras arranged at right angles, that moved as a unit. The four camera views were sent to four full-screen windows, one per screen. In the second setup, we used multiple computers--one per screen, and synchronized over the network--to render the four camera images.
The team chose Swamp Romp as the demonstration world because the circular lily pad path would encourage the guest to turn 360° and view all four screens.
Swamp Romp was originally created by: Jessica Abroms, Ira Fay, Cliff Forlines, Jay Woodward, and Joel Young
