The design team was given the task of re-imagining the content of the DJ Sez interface. One of the main challenges the team faces is to translate the rules of the game to the player in a clear and concise manner, without overstating the obvious and detracting from the pleasure of the experience. The following designs show the framework upon which the game play advances.

DJ Sez works off of the Dance Dance Revolution interface. In
correspondence with the prompts of the DJ, icons travel down separate channels indicating the timing of the player's actions. The game breaks down to three specific interactions; the player can hit the drum pad, spin the turntable left, and spin the turntable right. All three interactions are indicated by their respective icon.

There are three channels for each player. At the end of each channel is an icon reader.

As the DJ sends out different commands to the player, icons are sent down the channels.

When the icon reaches the icon reader, the proper action should be carried out by the player. If the player hits their drum pad at the exact moment when the icon lines up with the icon reader, the player is rewarded with visual and tonal feedback.

EFFECTS

A large portion of re-designing the DJ Sez experience was the evolution of the "DJ" character. With the addition of a new graphical interface for the experience, it was necessary to re-imagine the DJ into the more table's more futuristic landscape. To accomplish this task, the DJ was retextured and then rendered at production quality on a green screen background. To incorporate the DJ into the new table design, the DJ was composited onto a selected background surface using Adobe AfterEffects.

    SOUNDS

  • Music is the staple of the DJSEZ experience.
  • Matching up the sound. Wasn't at a steady 116 metronome marking.
  • Added an introduction, with a quiet beat in the background.
  • Volume of DJ was raised.
  • New pad sounds to match the futuristic look of the Jam-o-drum
  • More realistic feedback from hitting the drum.
  • Added speakers, which corrected a lot of the volume issues.
