The concepts behind the CyberSecurity project come from three major considerations: First, the game must be educational and provide the player with the requisite training. Second, the game should be entertaining, captivating and should be able to sustain the player's interest for the entire training period. Third the game must be expandable and allow additional content to be added when new attacks arise.

To provide for the first consideration the design concept made sure to place the informative content foremost in the game play, including the use of a mentor character and the incorporation of tutorial scenarios, training films and reference materials.

For the second point we chose to take the otherwise dry material of network security procedure and wrap it in a captivating look and feel and then provide the player with an engrossing storyline which carries them along through the tutorials and into the "live-fire" mode in which they do battle with hackers attempting to defeat their defenses.

Finally, our game engine design made sure to provide expandability or the stories and visual elements through the use of a database to store the story information and an authoring tool to allow easy editing of scenarios.
