Week 9 – Wrap up pattern recognition
This week we are wrapping up the pattern recognition prototype. We made several changes to it and decided to leave it there until our polish week.
Firstly, we improved the UI to better present the necessary information to our players.
We proposed another way of introducing patterns by removing the numbers but using the shapes only.
But we worried that player may be more confused and we may need to spend more time on tutorial, so we finally decided to still use the original UI but just polish it to make it easier for reading.
Then we added audio feedback into the game. We added several script lines and more sound effects for the punching. We also created 1,2,3,4,5,6 punch calls to mimic what boxing trainers do in the gym.
At the end of the week, we have our final build for the pattern recognition ready and sent to our instructor, Ricardo, to test with his class in which all students own an Oculus Quest. And we also finished compiling our playtest survey for our playtesting in next week.
Next week, we will conduct playtests and start to work on our second prototype, which in our current design would be a rhythm exertion experience. Our programmer has built a very simple prototype and we are going to build upon that.
