Beyond Expectations

The first thing we didn’t expect is that we had 9 guests! It’s hard to handle an in-person playtest under COVID policy and restrictions, so we didn’t expect to have that many guests joining us. To utilize the opportunity, we tested different standing positions for the audience, multiple guests simultaneously, different specs and screen sizes for AR effects on smartphones. From their feedback, most of them returned very positive comments. The combination of digital and practical effects really changes the experience for a musical show. There is more than one time we heard guests saying, “it’s beyond my expectation!”

Suggestions

Here is the list of the things we need to pay attentions from their feedbacks.

  • Screen Sizes and Angles
    • The screen is not big enough
    • The stage is horizontal, may better view the show horizontally
  • UI/UX
    • Maybe adding something to cues where to look so don’t miss any part of AR effects
    • Adding sound effect and vibrations can make the AR effect more lively
    • No way for the team to monitor if the guest is able to see the AR effects correctly
  • Digital Effects
    • The flying knife is too fast to see
    • Coin piles it was a bit lagging
    • The coins are not so golden

Ongoing Journey

According to the schedule of this semester, we have finished 2/3 of the journey. However, the development should be ended by the end of Week 13 or the middle of Week 14, since we need to save some time for presentation preparation. Also, we have a soft opening on Week 13 and we need to provide an almost-done version to faculty. As a producer, I would say the version of playtesting might be pretty close to the final version we will present, but we need to seize the rest of the time for polishing.
