Motivation of the project:

This project starts with the fact that there are 2500000 mines deployed throughout the world each year while only 10000 of them are removed annually. This means there are tons of landmines left unsupervised in the ground that prevent farmer from growing food and people inhabiting the land.

Most of current demine solutions are expensive, including hiring dedicated personnel one the field and training animals to detect the landmines underground. All of these process are costly and can lead to potential casualties. With eDemining, these downsides can be avoided by hiring technicians who operate demining robots in remote locations through internet.

Our game is the first step of the whole project pitched by the clients. The focus of the first step is to let the audience learn the basics of eDemining and increase their awareness of the landmine issues around the world. The predominant reason for creating a game instead of other media is the fact that the online gamer community is by far the largest group that has enough influence over any Internet applications, including the eDemining. Letting the online gamers to try out the idea will provide previous feedback when eDemining is online.

Goals of the project:

Since real-world demining process is usually conducted in groups, we want to make the game into a multiplayer challenge where players can experience the eDmining process and have fun. The team try to put a lot of realistic elements from real-world demining. However, the design is still focused on the gameplay instead of creating a simulation software.

Target Audience:

The target audience of the game will be strategy game lovers who enjoy planning and managing resources. Also, social players who like to interact with people in the online communities fit into our range as well.

Deliverable:

The game is developed via Unreal Engine 4 due to its modularity and Blueprint system which is friendly to non-engineers. The final deliverable will be deployed onto Windows system as exe files. In total there are two types of exe files: one for the clients and one for the dedicated server. The server can be hosted at any Windows computer. Once the server in online, clients can use their exe file to connect to the game.
