After our meeting with our clients on Friday last week, we communicated via email and scheduled two visits to the remnants of the furnaces. One would be a private tour for us to get a sense of what our clients wanted from us, and the second would be the public-facing tour. We wanted to use this opportunity to have a better understanding of our goals and challenges.

As we were preparing for the visits, we did more brainstorming on the possible effects we can add to the site, and on ways that we could achieve these effects. For example, we thought of using the Metahuman creator of the Unreal Engine to create a large number of laborer models efficiently. Meanwhile, our programmers started to test with different AR platforms including ARKit, ARCore, and ARENA XR.

We paid our first visit to the site on Thursday. Our instructors Scott and Mo drove us to the site and visited alongside us. The goal of this Thursday tour was to get internal information from the clients on parts of the furnaces that they regard as the most important. We took several photos and gained valuable archived files from the clients.

We visited the site again on Sunday. This time, our goal was to learn from a tourist’s perspective what an official tour experience would be like. We took notes on possible spots where we think AR can improve the experience for a guest.
