Week 4: Reference Video and story iterations

From discussions within the group and with instructors, we find we have gaps in our story and we need a way to check how our animation looks before we start to make assets. Therefore, we made a first-person-view video by sticking a camera on Neal’s head and then acting out the film. This approach helps us in many aspects. First, it blocks out the timeline so that we know exactly how much time each part of the animation will take. Second, by acting out the film, we find out a lot of details we could add to the animation that storyboard does not include. Based on the reference video, Clare starts to iterate on the storyboard to include more visual elements. Clare also made a rough asset list including models we need to create in the film.
Continuing from last week, Qin made another visual guide focusing on the operating desk where most of the story will be presented.  Qin also starts to make concept arts for the pre-package for the next animation team. The concept is from the second story pitch we abandoned in our magic ink story brainstorming, which tells a story in Mockumentary form in a future high-tech world.

Neal and Zi also started to test changing models in the leap motion capture programs as we want to use our own hand models in our animation. We bought some hand models and tried to use them to replace the original model. However, there are some problems we find hard to solve easily. The team will continue to try to solve these problems in the coming week. Lastly, Yifan completed our team logo. Clare and Qin also started to make our team poster and picture.
