What is the CySec Project?

The goal of the MySecureCyberspace for Kids website is to educate kids about cybersecurity and instill in them good cybercitizen habits so that being safe and secure online becomes as second nature as brushing your teeth or looking both ways before crossing the street. The Cysec team is creating a prototype game with a superhero theme to teach cybersecurity in a proactive manner. Our target audience is 4th and 5th grade students because they are required to be able to read to learn and are also at the point in their curriculum where they are getting introduced to the internet basics.

The story of the game is that the player is a trainee in the Cyberhero Defense Academy. In order to learn about cybersecurity, the player must enter CyberSpace, the city that exists inside the Internet, on several missions. These missions are mini-games designed to teach major cybersecurity principles such as how to use judgement when sorting and opening emails and what sort of behavior in a chat room they should be suspicious of.
