The goals of the first cycle of the Earth Theater project were to create an interactive and exhilarating experience for the audience at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

Our target audience was between 5 and 10 years of age, usually in school or family groups. The interaction had to be made simple enough to be explained quickly, and interesting enough to capture the children's attentions for 5 to 10 minutes, getting them excited to see the educational but non-interactive portion of the show following the experience.

We also wanted to make the pre-show as self-running as possible, with as little need for monitoring and external operation as possible. To this end we filmed an introductory video to be played before each showing that would introduce the story, and set up the interaction.
